I'll elaborate on why this isn't a good book for self studying: First, the proofs can be a little too succinct. But quite inspiring for me.. Tales from the women's side are interesting, showing a whole nuther side of life there and how hardy women faced the same and often worse privations, successes and tragedies as the menfolk.
Read this in conjunction with Rebel Women of the Klondike.
I started my Klondike study with the book The Klondike Fever by Breton which while far more detailed, gives another view of many of the same events and varies in details on who did what and why. I'm not actually at the place where I need it, but my mom is 97--and it is inevitable. Obviously, this is a book for science fiction and fantasy, but good stories transcend their genre. The way the tracks are performed provides additional great instruction in gospel phrasing, dynamics, feel & timing etc.
